Man faces assault charge after spitting on an officer

YOUNGSTOWN — A city man is expected to be arraigned in municipal court this afternoon on a felony charge of assault on a police officer.

Reports said Ryan Campbell, 28, spit on a police officer about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday as he was being treated at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for injuries he sustained earlier in the evening following a two-vehicle accident in the 2500 block of Cooper Street.

At the accident scene, Campbell swore at police and paramedics and he refused to submit to a blood test at the hospital to determine his blood alcohol content, reports said. He then spat on a city police officer.

Campbell was booked into the Mahoning County jail Tuesady afternoon after being treated for his injuries. He is also charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and OVI.
