A city man was arraigned Tuesday in Campbell Municipal Court after a 911 call from a 7-year-old boy led to a bust for suspected drug trafficking.

Jason Carter, 37, faces charges of drug trafficking, possession of drugs, possession of marijuana, possession of criminal tools, endangering children, domestic violence and illegal possession of weapons disability. A judge set his bond at $25,000.

Officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Rosary Drive about 6:46 a.m. Saturday after a 7-year-old boy called 911 to say his mother was being beaten up by her boyfriend.

A 28-year-old woman told police Carter had choked her and pushed her. Police reported the woman was injured and that Carter had blood on his shirt. Officers also observed a shattered glass container in the kitchen and a broken refrigerator handle.

According to a police report, officers handcuffed Carter in the home’s driveway and arrested him on a charge of domestic violence. Police said before being searched, Carter attempted to hide a bag of suspected cocaine by tossing the bag onto the driveway. Police said Carter also had two cellphones and $899 in cash in his possession.

The boy and a 10-year-old girl left the home with their grandmother.

Officers searched the home after obtaining permission from the 28-year-old woman. Officers seized $2,700 in cash, more than 8 grams of suspected cocaine, more than 5 grams of suspected marijuana, a 9mm loaded handgun, a bulletproof vest and suspected drug paraphernalia, including a digital scale, a grinder, a spoon and small plastic bags.

Carter will appear Tuesday in municipal court for a preliminary hearing.
