Fire victim identified

WARREN

The Trumbull County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died in a fire late Friday on Tibbetts-Wick Road in Weatherfield Township as Andrea Vigorito, 79. The cause and manner of death are not yet available, the coroner’s office said.

A neighbor called 911 at 11:30 p.m. Friday after hearing an explosion and seeing an orange flash and blue light “like a gas explosion” coming from Vigorito’s house.

Several departments helped Weathersfield firefighters put out the fire, and officials found Vigorito’s body the next afternoon while using an excavator. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is handling the investigation into the cause.

Arrested in $15.75 theft

CAMPBELL

A man was arraigned Tuesday in Campbell Municipal Court after police say he stole $15.75 from a woman outside a McDonald’s restaurant on McCartney Road.

James Williams, 42, of Youngstown faces a felony robbery charge. A judge set his bond at $8,000.

An 18-year-old New Castle, Pa., woman called police before 8 a.m. Monday and said a man approached her car near the restaurant’s drive-thru area and said he needed money for himself and his daughter because his car was out of gas.

The woman said the man leaned against her car door and said he would leave her alone if she gave him her change, a police report states.

Police arrested Williams based on a physical description via a traffic stop at McCartney Road near 6th Street.

Liberty paving

LIBERTY

Liberty Township trustees will have a special business meeting at 1 p.m. today at the township administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

Trustees are expected approve a resolution requesting the Trumbull County engineer to prepare specifications to pave a section of Keefer Road from state Route 304 to Tomilu Drive as well as approve a resolution stripe some township roads.

Man faces charge of domestic violence

GIRARD

A man faces a felony domestic-violence charge after officers responded Tuesday morning to a call from a Trumbull Avenue home.

A 31-year-old Girard woman told police Laquawn Smith, 30, of Girard punched her several times in the back of the head and pushed her down. A police report states the woman had bruises on her legs and a cut on her shin.

The woman complained of dizziness and was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Officers arrested Smith, who was driving westbound on Trumbull Avenue, via a traffic stop, the report states.

Police said there was also an active warrant for Smith’s arrest out of Warren Municipal Court.

Delmont pleads guilty to burglary charges

WARREN

Anthony M. Delmont, 42, of South Meridian Road in Youngstown, a former Trumbull County corrections officer, pleaded guilty Monday in common pleas court to charges of attempted burglary and burglary.

The charges relate to allegations he broke into a motor home on Naylor-Lloyd Road in Liberty on July 13, 2015, taking property and causing damage. He fled when confronted by the victims, Liberty police said.

Delmont will be sentenced in about four weeks, after the county Adult Probation Department conducts a pre-sentence investigation.

Delmont worked seven years as a corrections officer in the county jail until he resigned in 2009 after allegations he had used heroin.

Carcelli review reset

COLUMBUS

Preliminary review of an Ohio Elections Committee complaint against Struthers school board member Ronald Carcelli has been reset for Sept. 15. The OEC initially scheduled the review for Thursday.

Struthers Law Director Dominic Leone filed a complaint with the OEC in June, alleging Carcelli solicited political contributions to Mayor Terry Stocker’s golf outing while in city hall. Funds from the annual Terry Stocker golf outing go to the Committee to Elect Terry P. Stocker.

Stocker said in June he was unaware at the time of Carcelli soliciting political funds in a government building.

Home assistance

YOUNGSTOWN

Catholic Charities Housing Opportunities, in conjunction with Catholic Charities service agencies in the Diocese of Youngstown, operates a home-ownership program.

It includes down-payment assistance and pre- and post-housing counseling, including basic home-maintenance training. The program is available throughout the six-county region of the diocese that includes Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull.

The program provides up to $3,000 in down-payment assistance and out-of-pocket expenses, based on client eligibility.
