MMA fighter gets 2 years for violent attack

YOUNGSTOWN — An amateur mixed martial arts fighter today was sentenced in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to two years in prison on a charge of felonious assault for an attack on his girlfriend's father in January.

As the young children of Sam Daviduk, 20, of North Belle Vista Avenue, could be heard playing outside the courtroom, Judge Shirley J. Christian said she was concerned that Daviduk would use his training if he runs into more anger problems after he gets out of prison.

Daviduk told the judge the prison sentence has gotten his attention and he does not want to get in trouble again.

The victim in the case, the father of his girlfriend, told the judge Daviduk beat him while he was trying to break up a fight between Daviduk and his daughter, who is also the mother of Daviduk's children.

The victim said he needed more than 30 stitches.
