Boardman cops target drunken driving

BOARDMAN

Township police are involved in a nationwide anti-drunken driving initiative that runs through Labor Day.

The department is taking part in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, during which officers are participating in high-visibility enforcement that targets aggressive and distracted driving offenses, drivers Operating a Vehicle while Impaired, and seat-belt violations.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that, on average, more than 10,000 people died each year between 2010 and 2014 in drunk-driving crashes. Labor Day weekend is one of the deadliest times of the year for those accidents.
