Six people arrested on felony drug charges over the weekend were arraigned Monday in municipal court, while a seventh person was arraigned on felony weapons charges.
Of the six drug defendants, three were arrested by members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol who were conducting saturation patrols over the weekend with help from city police, and three others were arrested by city police.
The person facing weapons charges, Jonahthun Green, 21, of Burbank Avenue, was arrested about 4:50 p.m. Saturday by troopers after reports said he ran from a traffic stop on Logan Avenue. Troopers and city police officers tracked Green to Belle Avenue and Albert Street, where he was taken into custody after he jumped a fence.
Reports said troopers found a revolver where Green jumped the fence, and he was arraigned on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Judge Robert Milich set his bond at $35,000.
Arraigned on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and possession of crack cocaine was Kevin Carter, 57, arrested by troopers about 10 p.m. Friday after he was found riding his bicycle in the middle of Juanita and Alameda avenues on the North Side with no lights on the bike.
Reports said Carter smelled heavily of alcohol. When he was searched, troopers found a crack pipe and a dose of suspected crack cocaine in his pocket. Judge Milich set his bond at $5,000.
Arraigned on charges of possession of heroin and illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility was Vincent Sherman, 23, who was arrested about 3:40 p.m. Friday on St. Louis Avenue after a traffic stop. Reports said officers pulled over his vehicle for improper plates on the car and took him to the jail on a charge of resisting arrest. At the jail, reports said a dose of suspected heroin was found in his underwear. Judge Milich set his bond at $15,000.
Johnnie Carnathan, 56, was arraigned on charges of possession of drugs after he was pulled over about 3:50 p.m. Friday on Glenwood Avenue by troopers for driving left of center. Reports said he allowed troopers to search him, and they found a dose of suspected heroin in his sock. The judge set Carnathan’s bond at $5,000.
Arrested by city police about 8:55 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Cleveland Avenue on the South Side was Tammy Kornegay, 50, of Liberty after two bags of suspected crack cocaine were found in her bra after a traffic stop when she was searched by a female officer. Her bond was set at $5,000. She is charged with drug possession.
About 5:45 p.m. Saturday, city police officers arrested Harry Wynn Jr., 31, of Hubbard, on charges of possession of drugs after troopers and city police found seven pills in his car at Albert and State streets. He was pulled over after almost hitting a concrete barrier on the Madison Avenue Expressway, reports said.
Monica Johnson, 39, of Canfield Road, was given a $6,000 bond at her arraignment on charges of possession of crack cocaine and possession of drugs. She was pulled over about 10:50 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of West Chalmers Avenue, and police found chunks of suspected crack cocaine on the driver’s seat and a pill on the floor when she got out of her car.
