BOARDMAN

As families prepare for the new school year, two institutions have banded together to help last-minute back-to-school shoppers.

Crawling to Destiny, a Boardman child-care and learning center, will collaborate with Stambaugh Charter Academy of Youngstown for the first Love Our Valley school supplies giveaway from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Families can visit the Crawling to Destiny center at 11 Overhill Road and pick up various school supplies such as notebooks, pencils, backpacks, erasers, rulers and folders as well as drinks and snacks.

Hasheen Wilson, owner, founder and principal of Crawling to Destiny, said the center purchased more than $1,000 worth of school supplies with its revenue to distribute at different venues.

After three weeks, however, the center had a larger surplus than predicted. So he and center staff decided to have their own event.

“For us, it’s not only about a single instance, it’s a continuous connection with our community,” Wilson said.

Their collaboration idea began after the center gave away supplies at the charter school’s recruitment event two weeks ago.

Landon Brown, the academy’s principal, said the academy had its own leftover school supplies and decided to lend a hand.
