Man claims he was shot by would-be robber

YOUNGSTOWN — A 36-year-old man told police Saturday he was shot in the foot by a would-be robber at about 7:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Dearborn Street.

Police were called to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where the man was being treated for his wound. Reports said he told police he was walking to a bar when a man with a handgun tried to rob him. The two struggled over the gun before it went off, reports said.

Reports said police checked the area and could find no evidence of a crime scene.
