HOWLAND

A fire on Anderson Avenue required the efforts of six fire departments to gain control of the blaze.

According to the Howland Township Fire Department, crews from Howland, Cortland, Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Bazetta, Weathersfield and Liberty Fire were called to assist in extinguishing the fire around 3 p.m. Sunday.

The resident of the home safely evacuated and was transported to a hospital for cardiac-related problems, reports said. The fire is under investigation.

Cops: Man shot drugs with child inside car

YOUNGSTOWN

Officers arrested a Fowler man on drug and child-endangering charges.

According to police, a witness said she saw Joshua Leach, 33, of Russell Lane in Fowler, putting a needle in his arm with a child in the backseat of the vehicle Saturday evening on Gibson Street.

Reports said when officers arrived, Leach was passed out in the car with a needle on the console with the child still in the back seat.

Leach was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Upon Leach’s recovery, he will face charges of child endangering and possession of drug-abuse instruments.

Fire at Niles stadium

A fire that destroyed a booster club’s stand in Niles was called suspicious by Niles Fire Department officials.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, Niles Fire Chief David Danielson said the stand was fully engulfed when fire trucks arrived around 2:30 a.m.

The stand, dubbed the Dragon Wagon, was attached to McKinley High School’s football stadium and stored football team merchandise worth $4 to $5,000, all of which is now lost.
