Fire fighters buried a family dog after Vienna house fire

VIENNA

A fire destroyed a home on Niles-Vienna Road Sunday and resulted in the loss of two pets, Vienna Township Fire Department Chief Richard Brannon said.

Brannon said he was called to the residence about 3 p.m., immediately noticing there was no way to gain entry into the home.

“I finally picked up a rock and broke the big plate glass window,” he said. “I didn’t know if anyone was in there, but there was a car in the driveway.”

None of the residents was home, but firefighters had to bury the family dog that was trapped inside.

The family cat is unaccounted for.

Brannon said the home, now with boarded up windows, is a total loss.

He said the cause was most likely a burner on the stove left on.

The family is staying with other family members.
