Car slams into crowd at concert in Ohio, injuring 9
PARMA HEIGHTS
A car slammed into a crowd at an outdoor concert in Ohio injuring nine people, two of them seriously.
It happened Sunday night in Parma Heights, about 10 miles south of Cleveland.
Police say a 74-year-old woman who was leaving the community concert accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake as she was pulling out of her parking space. Police say she then drove onto a small dance floor in the parking lot at the concert and crashed into a crowd.
Six people were taken to area hospitals, two of them with serious injuries. Three others were treated at the scene.
Charges have not been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
No injuries as freight train derails in rural Texas
ROANOKE, Texas
No injuries have been reported after a train that police say was apparently hauling coal derailed in North Texas.
Det. Sandy Pettigrew tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram about 20 rail cars from a Union Pacific train went off the tracks Sunday evening in a rural area of Roanoke, a city about 30 miles north of Fort Worth. Pettigrew says about five cars fell into a creek. Police responded to the scene around 6 p.m.
Pettigrew says the train appeared to be hauling coal but that there was no threat of hazardous materials leaking into the creek.
Police in nearby Flower Mound were diverting southbound traffic on U.S. highway 377.
A Union Pacific spokesman did not immediately respond to a message from The Associated Press seeking comment.
