HONORS

The United States Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology has named Brian Kolenich, executive director of Park Vista of Youngstown, to the 2016 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners. The award is the nation’s highest honor for organizational innovation and performance excellence.

Appointed by the NIST Director, examiners are responsible for reviewing and evaluating applications submitted for the award, as well as other assessment-related tasks. Examiners are recognized for their competencies related to customer focus, communication, ethics, action orientation, team building and analytical skills.

Kolenich has served the Baldrige Board of Examiners as an Alumni Examiner since 2012. In addition, he served as an Examiner and then senior examiner from 2003 through 2008.

DOCTORATE

Michael A. Rock, son of Frank and Marlene Rock formerly of Struthers, recently received his doctorate of educational leadership. He completed a dissertation titled “A Case Study of New Operating Tax Levies for Ohio School Districts that Pass: Superintendent Viewpoints” in January.

He is a 1987 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University in 1996 and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the American College in 2005.

He is the CFO/treasurer of Warrensville Heights School District. Rock lives in Painesville with his wife, Natalie, and children Nora, 13, and Adam, 8.
