Walkoff double defeats Scrappers

Batavia, N.Y.

After 11 scoreless innings, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers took the game’s first lead.

It wasn’t enough as the Batavia Muckdogs, down to their final strike twice, rallied for Thursday’s 2-1 victory.

Pablo Garcia doubled to the right-field corner to drive in two runs in the walkoff victory.

Scrappers starter Shane Bieber was unhittable for the first three innings. He did not allow a baserunner as he struck out four.

Luis Jimenez followed with six innings of scoreless relief. Jimenez stranded four runners on base as he turned in his best outing of the season.

The Scrappers best scoring chance during regulation came in the top of the fifth inning. Mahoning Valley loaded the bases with two outs but stranded all three.

In the top of the 12th inning, Emmanuel Tapia walked and Mitch Longo singled. With one out, Alexis Pantoja singled to score pinch runner Silento Sayles for a 1-0 lead.

with the go ahead run for a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 12th with two outs, Michael Garzillo doubled to left. Jhony Santos followed with a walk to set up Garcia’s two-run double.

It was the Scrappers’ fourth extra-innings loss this season.

Henry Martinez (0-3) took the loss in two-and-a-third innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on two hits. Martinez walked one and struck out three.
