Riding hogs for Hospice of the Valley

AUSTINTOWN

Roaring sounds will happen around noon Sunday at Mike’s Lounge for the fifth annual Grimm Run for motorcycles.

All motorcycling participants can pay $10 per person to ride almost 70 miles to eat, collect poker cards and raise money for Hospice of the Valley.

Lisa Grimm, event coordinator, said the event is something that is close to her heart.

“Everyone has had some kind of experience with a sick loved one,” she said. “Seeing everyone so eager to help really makes me cry.”

Grimm said she most enjoys seeing her group of family and friends willing to be a part of the festivities in some way.

Todd Shaffer, Austintown Township Park supervisor and Grimm Run committee member, said he enjoys being able to give back to Hospice of the Valley.

“Hospice of the Valley has helped so many people in the area, and to give back to them is just a great feeling,” he said.

In addition to riding, Mike’s Lounge, 5532 Mahoning Ave., will provide food, prize drawings, karaoke and more from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Bikes lead off at noon.

The entire event raised more than $6,000 in 2015 with more than 250 bikes riding in the run, Shaffer said.

“It’s just great to work with a group of people so dedicated to this cause,” he said. “This is a special ride for us all to honor Hospice and the loved ones who we’ve all lost.”
