Trial date set for woman charged with animal cruelty in Campbell

CAMPBELL — A November trial date has been set for a misdemeanor animal-cruelty case.

Tameka Smith, 25, of Youngstown is set to appear 9 a.m. Nov. 7 in Campbell Municipal Court for trial. The trial previously had been set for today.

Police charged Smith in January 2015 after they reported finding a dead, frozen dog chained outside a Reed Avenue home without access to food or water.

Smith’s defense attorney has said his client is innocent and noted that Smith did not live at the Reed Avenue home at the time of the dog’s death.

Small groups of animal-rights activists have nicknamed the dog Charlie and have protested at Smith’s court appearances.
