Police: Ohio teen social media post shows ’simulated weapon’

PERRYSBURG, Ohio (AP) — A high school student who police say posted a video on social media showing him packing a “simulated weapon” in his backpack with a warning not to go to school the next day has been arrested in northwest Ohio on a juvenile charge of inducing panic.

The Blade in Toledo reports Perrysburg Deputy Chief James Rose says police don’t believe the video depicted a real weapon and no other students appeared to be involved.

Perrysburg Schools Superintendent Thomas Hosler says a student told a parent about the post. The parent alerted a school official who reported it to police Monday night.

The 15-year-old student is being held at the Wood County Detention Facility.

Hosler says school officials will make a later determination regarding “any potential disciplinary action.”
