Firefighters battle four blazes

YOUNGSTOWN
City firefighters were busy battling four blazes in vacant structures within 10 hours Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
They fought fires late Monday and early Tuesday on the city’s South Side. The fires were listed as intentionally set.
The first, reported at 11:15 p.m. Monday at 722 E. Florida Ave., was confined to an attached garage and enclosed breezeway, with the garage being destroyed. One firefighter suffered a minor injury there but did not require treatment.
The other overnight fire was at 2:27 a.m. in an unsecured house at 147 Balsam Court.
The fire department listed as under investigation the causes of two other Tuesday morning fires.
A vacant-house fire was reported at 8:21 a.m. Tuesday at 39 N. Truesdale Ave. on the city’s East Side, said Battalion Chief Ron Russo.
The last in the series of blazes, reported at 9:07 a.m. Tuesday, destroyed a detached garage at a vacant house at 417 Foster St. on the city’s North Side.
No injuries were reported in the Tuesday fires.
