AUSTINTOWN

Township police arrested a Youngstown man on drug-related charges early Tuesday.

According to a police report, Michael Williams, 29, of Fairfax Street, is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and possession of a schedule-four controlled substance. He is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court today for arraignment.

The charges stem from a traffic stop conducted about 1 a.m. on Mahoning Avenue just east of state Route 11, according to a police report. Police reportedly found suspected marijuana, rolling papers and Tramadol pills in the vehicle. Tramadol is an opioid drug used to treat pain.

Williams also was given verbal warnings for multiple traffic violations, according to the report. He was taken to the county jail.

The Columbiana County elections board meets at 1:30 p.m. today at the board office, 7989 Dickey Drive, Suite 3. The board will certify or invalidate nonpartisan candidate and local option petitions.

Livestock auction

Youngstown

The Canfield Fair Livestock Auction/Sale will take place Sept. 1-2 in the 4-H coliseum, Building 8, where participants may purchase livestock to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley for distribution to hungry families in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties.

Livestock available to purchase for donation include market beef, hogs, poultry-broilers, turkeys, goats and lambs.

On Sept. 1, goat-milk, fudge, market rabbits and market goats will be available at 5:30 p.m., and market lambs and carcass lambs will be available at 7 p.m.

On Sept. 2, market poultry, broilers and turkeys will be available at 5:30 p.m. and market beef, market feeders and market hogs will be available at 7 p.m.

Livestock purchased to be donated will be processed by Winona Frozen Foods and Lehman Poultry.
