Orthopedic surgeries

St. Joe’s at the Mall, an outreach program of Mercy Health – Youngstown, will host Dr. Brian Williams, orthopedic surgeon, who will discuss two procedures that he performs at St. Joseph Warren Hospital – anterior hip replacement and reverse shoulder replacement. Benefit event

The Mercy Health Foundation – Mahoning Valley is hosting a Stand Up for Man Up from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., to benefit the Man Up Mahoning Valley program at Mercy Health – Youngstown.

Tickets for this night of comedy, live auction, food and music are $75 per couple with single-ticket purchases available.

The event, which features nationally recognized comedians Kirk Bogos and Eric Thompson, raises money for and awareness about prostate cancer, the most common nonskin cancer among men. Man Up Mahoning Valley has made progress toward educating men on the importance of annual examinations and having the conversation with their physicians, said Jonathon Fauvie, gift officer with the Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley.

Man Up Mahoning Valley is a program where 100 percent of money raised provides free screenings for Valley men most vulnerable and unable to access such care.

Sleep disorders

As part of Sharon Regional Health System’s free Healthy Living Series, Dr. Kevin Trice, pulmonologist and sleep-medicine specialist, is offering “Sleep Disorders in School-aged Children” from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Diagnostic & Imaging Center, 2435 Garden Way.

He will discuss treatment options for children with sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, sleep walking and talking, restless/night terrors and bed wetting, which can manifest themselves as daytime symptoms such as behavioral problems, hyperactivity in younger children, excessive sleepiness in teens and concentration problems.

The Mercy Health Foundation – Mahoning Valley has received $100,000 from the Mahoning Valley Hospital Foundation to expand the Oral Health Wellness program to provide access for pre-kindergarten through elementary-aged children in Mahoning and Trumbull counties to dental care and education.
