Woman stabbed

YOUNGSTOWN

Police have a male suspect in custody in connection with the stabbing of a woman.

Officers responded about 9 p.m. Sunday to a report of a woman stabbed at a home on the 700 block of Indianola Avenue. Police apprehended a suspect before 9:20 p.m. near Big A’s Drive Thru on the 2500 block of Glenwood Avenue.

An ambulance arrived to transport the woman to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Police said the woman, who was stabbed in the stomach, is in stable condition. The incident remains under investigation.

Compost seminar

BERLIN CENTER

The Mahoning County Recycling Division will conduct its summer compost seminar at 10 a.m. Saturday at Berlin Township Hall, 15823 W. Akron-Canfield Road (U.S. Route 224), next to the fire station.

The cost is $10 for Mahoning County residents; $40 for nonresidents. Participants will receive an hour of training, an information booklet and a backyard compost bin. Composting is the process of recycling organic material. Call 330-740-2060 for information and registration.

Garden District

YOUNGSTOWN

The Garden District Neighborhood Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Colonial Hall at St. John Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Ave. President Jerry O’Hara will officiate.

Councilman Mike Ray, D-4th, will update the group on activities on the West Side and throughout the city. Guest speaker will be Gary Davenport, who will discuss activities of the Mahoning County Land Bank and its effect on the Garden District.

Bus training

AUSTINTOWN

Austintown School District will host a training opportunity for 32 schools and 458 school bus drivers Tuesday at Austintown Middle School, 800 S. Raccoon Road.

The training begins at 8 a.m. and meets the four-hour training requirement.

Robert Harmon, Ohio Department of Education transportation director, and Lt. Marvin Hill, commander of District 4 licensing and commercial standards, will speak to drivers.
