Former Vindy columnist to share lifetime memories

Nancy Ward Beeghly, retired Vindicator columnist, will be the next speaker in the Memories of Lifetime series, presented by the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society.

Beeghly will discuss her life at 10 a.m. Saturday in the meeting room of Kravitz Deli, 3135 Belmont Ave.

Admission is $5, and reservations are suggested; call Richard Scarsella, WHMHS chairman, at 330-726-8277. Walk-ins will be admitted as space permits.

Beeghly, a graduate of Mount Union College, taught English at Boardman High School. She later wrote a weekly column for The Vindicator for 12 years.

Beeghly has received numerous awards and recognition for community philanthropy, along with her husband of 48 years, Bruce Beeghly. She was conferred with an honorary doctorate for community service by Westminster College. Beeghly and her husband are recipients of the WHMHS Pioneer Award, which honors contributions by individuals to Mahoning Valley educational, cultural and civic affairs. She is a member of the WHMHS.

A Cleveland native, she is a graduate of The Rayen School in Youngstown. Beeghly has served on many community boards, including the Junior League of Youngstown, the Neal Kennedy Recovery Clinic, Beatitude House and the United Methodist Community Center. She previously served two terms on the board of trustees at Westminster College. She is a member of the advisory boards of the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center and the English Festival at Youngstown State University. She and her husband reside in Coitsville Township.

The WHMHS will be selling its new DVD, “William Holmes McGuffey: America’s Schoolmaster,” at the lecture.
