Eagle Scout Award

Patrick R. Byrne, 18, son of Pete and Diane Byrne of Canfield, was awarded his Eagle Scout Award during a court of honor ceremony last month at Canfield Methodist Church.

He has been a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 25, chartered to the church, for several years, and his highest rank is Arrow of Light. His scoutmaster is Kevin Prus Sr. He joined the troop in 2009 and previously had the positions of quarter master, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader. He has earned 26 merit badges.

His special Scout awards include the mile swim five times and the 50 Miler Award, and special troop awards, including the Bob Roberts Memorial back patch with four points. He also participated in a 50-mile canoe trip as a scout.

For his Eagle Scout service project, he designed and coordinated the construction and installation of three picnic tables for Potential Development Schools for Autism in Youngstown.

Patrick is a member of the Canfield High School class of 2016, where he participated in National Technical Honor Society, hockey, soccer and Interact club. Special recognitions include being a four-year varsity letter winner in hockey, one-year varsity letter winner in soccer and honor roll.

He will attend the Wentworth Institute of Technology for Civil Engineering in Boston, where he will pursue a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

Patrick is a member of St. Michael’s Parish in Canfield, where he is an usher and member of its youth group. He is also a member of the Youngstown Phantoms Midget Hockey team.
