St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oakhill Ave., will host “An Evening with Our Blessed Mother Mary: Renewing our Hearts in Peace, Justice and Unity” from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday.
There will be prayer, reflection, song and poetry. The gathering will reflect on the violence, hate and prejudice in the news and how people of faith are called to action and prayer.
Labyrinth walk
VILLA MARIA, PA.
Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will host a guided labyrinth walk on the theme “Path of Awareness” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the outdoor labyrinth. The ongoing series takes places monthly through October.
The labyrinth at Villa Maria is a replica of the one found in Chartres Cathedral in France. A labyrinth, unlike a maze, has one path in and returns on the same path to exit; in essence, winding and unwinding around four quadrants of a circle. It appears that labyrinths were used as a walking meditation for the spiritual seeker.
Guided walks are offered at no charge. Participants are invited to prayerfully walk the grass path after receiving thematic instructions from the presenter. Free-will offerings are accepted.
In questionable weather conditions, call 724-964-8886. Visit www.vmesc.org.

St. Rocco Day
BOARDMAN
St. James’ Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., will conduct its annual Commemoration of St. Rocco on Sunday with a festival eucharist at 10 a.m.
Aug. 16 is the feast of St. Rocco, who was born in 1295 in Montpellier, France, with a red cross on the left side of his chest. Inheriting his family wealth at age 20, he gave it all away to the poor and needy to become a pilgrim.
In his travels, he encountered communities suffering from the plague, where he helped the sick. Many were cured when he visited them. St. Rocco was imprisoned under suspicion of being a spy. He died at age 32. St. Rocco is best remembered for healing the sick; he also is known as a patron saint of dogs.
The service will be followed by the traditional St. Rocco’s cavatelli dinner from noon to 5 p.m. prepared by cooks of the former St. Rocco’s Episcopal Church in Youngstown, which closed in 2007.
Takeout will be available. The menu includes homemade cavatelli, meatballs, bread, tossed salad, dessert and beverage. Cost is $8.
There also will be a 50/50 raffle, basket and gift auction.
