Police respond to fight and find handgun

YOUNGSTOWN

Police found a handgun Thursday afternoon while responding to a fight call in the 2600 block of Tyrell Avenue.

Christopher Royal, 25, is in the Mahoning County jail on charges of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, obstructing official business, possession of drugs and possession of marijuana.

Royal was arrested about 1 p.m. after officers responded to a call that several men were fighting in a parking lot and one of them grabbed a gun out of an SUV.

Reports said Royal was standing next to the SUV and matched the description of the person who had the gun and just before police approached him he got in the SUV briefly then stepped out. Inside the SUV police found a loaded .25-caliber handgun, reports said.

Reports said Royal tried to run away but he was captured after a brief foot chase.
