Family members and friends of Jim Lendon spent an afternoon at Boardman park to host a dedication on July 8.
Lendon passed away in April 2016 and was an original member of the Boardman Poker Buddies group of friends. The Boardman Poker Buddies started meeting in January of 1970 with eight original members and still continues with new members who have joined. The group has been meeting once per month for more than 40 years.
Lendon was a biology teacher at Boardman High School and has made many friends during his teaching career. Several of Lendon’s close friends came from his poker group that he has been a part of ever since the group started.
“He was a great teacher and a great friend,” said Bill Jordan, friend and original member of the poker group.
Lendon’s poker group, original and current members, ordered a plaque and placed it at the base of a tree in Boardman Park next to St. James church. The plaque was to honor Lendon and to show how much he meant to his poker group.
Family and friends were happy they had the opportunity to get together for a special occasion and to honor someone close to them.
