What started as a contest between local Dollar General stores quickly became an inspiration to contribute to a good cause for the employees of the Canfield Dollar General. The employees took it upon themselves to coordinate donations to Canfield Operation Blessing.
The employees encouraged customers to buy a Dollar General item or two to be donated to Canfield Operation Blessing. Items which were promoted were toiletries and other items which Operation Blessing clients cannot purchase with their food cards.
The store collected 28 large boxes of items, including toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, toothpaste, tissues, napkins, hand soap, body wash, trash bags and aspirin, which Canfield Operation Blessing will distribute to their clients in July and August.
“We would like to thank the employees of Canfield Dollar General and especially Manager Sherri Lupole. We would also like to thank the customers of Dollar General. They are so good to us. The Dollar General employees, customers and people of Canfield are wonderful,” said Julie Kercher, Director of Canfield Operation Blessing.
The Canfield Dollar General also collects donations of toys at Christmas for Operation Blessing and is considering the possibility of collecting school supplies for the organization to distribute to their clients.
Lupole said if her store wins the contest between the Dollar General stores, they have an idea of what to do with the prize.
“Whichever store wins the contest will receive a $50 pizza party. I talked to my employees and they all decided that if we win the contest, we will donate the $50 to Operation Blessing. The employees here are amazing and they really care about the Canfield community. I would also like to thank the people of Canfield for buying and donating items for Operation Blessing. We really appreciate their support,” Lupole said.
