The Boardman library hosted its own Library Olympics for children on July 14.
Librarian John Yingling worked with the library’s head clerk to create Olympic-style games for the children to participate in. The staff made a torch for the children to pass around before the games started, just as they would in the Olympics.
Some of the games the children participated in were group games, and others they could do individually. There were a few types of relay races where the children divided up into girls versus boys.
After the team games were finished, there were four games the children could choose from to play on their own. There was a Q-Tip Toss game, a bean-bag toss game, a javelin throw and a game to see how many times someone could bounce a pom-pom on a plate.
Yingling explained that the summer programs hosted by the library give the children an opportunity to come to the library and participate in several different activities. During the school year when children and their parents are more busy, it’s harder to attend library programs.
There are various types of programs the library hosts throughout the summer for everyone to enjoy. More information can be found online at www.libraryvisit.org.
