Boardman kindergarteners learn skills at Safety Village

BOARDMAN

Kindergarteners entering Boardman schools this year didn’t seem to mind the heat and humidity at the annual Safety Village.

In the parking lot of Glenwood Middle School, students enjoyed a variety of fun activities Thursday morning.

Registered students each received a T-shirt and were divided into eight groups of 15 to 20 to rotate to one of the five safety stations available with breaks in between.

Safety Village has been around for more than a decade. There was no event last year, however, due to the Parent Teacher Association’s inability to organize it in time. This year was different.

Tanna Sebrell, PTA STEM coordinator, said the amount of support and turnout from the community this year gave her goosebumps.

“We have over 40 volunteers, the teachers, the students,” she said. “It’s just pretty amazing what these types of people will do for the kids.”
