Valley auto sales down in July

Mahoning Valley auto sales were down 19 percent in July.

Valley automakers sold 4,363 new and used vehicles in July, compared with 5,281 sold in July 2015, according to data released by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

The data come from vehicle titles processed by the final business day each month at county title departments.

For the year so far, new and used sales are 30,950, compared with 32,992 at this time last year.

The area’s new-auto sales in July dropped by 554 year-over-year to 2,514. Used sales dropped by 330 to 1,796.

The top-selling dealers of new and used vehicles were Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown with 272 sales; Sweeney Chevrolet of Boardman with 211 sales; and Taylor Kia of Boardman with 194 sales.

The top-selling new makes in the Valley were Chevrolet with 804 sales; Ford with 368 sales; and GMC with 148 sales.

The best-selling new models in the Valley were the Chevrolet Silverado with 171 sales; the Chevrolet Equinox with 160 sales; and the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze with 131 sales.

The best-selling used models during July were the Cruze with 85 sales; the Ford Escape with 61 sales; and the Ford F-150 with 46 sales.

Nationally, July auto sales rose just slightly to 1.52 million.
