A man who says former boxing champion Kelly Pavlik intentionally shot him in his arm with an air rifle Aug. 9, 2015, at Pavlik’s residence has filed a civil lawsuit against Pavlik seeking at least $125,000 in damages.

Brian Bailing, of Maple Drive, Boardman, sued Pavlik, of Sugarbush Drive, Canfield, this week in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Because of his having been shot, Bailing said he has lost substantial work and compensation, endured great pain and undergone physical and mental-health treatment, and believes he has a permanent disability.

Pavlik, 34, former middleweight champion, also was charged criminally with felonious assault in common pleas court in the shooting, in which a .177-caliber air rifle was discharged.

His criminal jury trial is scheduled to begin Dec. 5 before Judge John M. Durkin.

Pavlik is free on $25,000 bond, and Judge Durkin ordered him to have no contact with Bailing.
