POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

Aug. 3

Domestic violence: Laquawn Smith, no age given, of Trumbull Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after a woman said Smith struck her numerous times during an argument that apparently started when he became angered that the accuser had helped a co-worker. The victim had cuts and swelling to her lips and swelling around her left eye.

Aug. 4

Criminal mischief: A man reported a juvenile tossed an object at his truck, breaking a magnet on the driver’s-side door, as he drove near Forsythe Avenue.

Theft: An East Second Street man told police he received phone alerts that someone in Valencia, Calif., had used his debit-card number three times to make about $442 worth of unauthorized purchases.

Harassment: A Mosier Road woman said her former boyfriend had made and sent unwanted calls and text messages, some of which were threatening in nature.

Criminal mischief: A woman saw that someone had pushed over and damaged a fence post at her Greenwood Avenue residence.

Aug. 5

Criminal mischief: A North State Street man noticed on his motor home damage to two doors, along with dents and scratches to its passenger side. Damage came to $2,000.

Assault: A worker for a Trumbull Avenue business alleged the owner had thrown him to the ground and hit the accuser’s face with his elbow during a heated dispute about the victim’s property.

Aug. 6

Attempted burglary: A male teenager reportedly had tried to break into a garage in the 500 block of Hazel Street before fleeing on foot when the homeowner and a family member confronted the would-be burglar.

Theft: A $1,000 central air-conditioning unit was removed from outside a U.S. Route 422 hair salon.

Menacing: An East Prospect Street man and his juvenile son reported the son had been in a heated argument that nearly got out of hand.

Aug. 7

Assaults: While answering a fight call in the 100 block of Church Hill Road, authorities charged Amarae Kornegay, 20, of Madison Road, Youngstown, and 21-year-old Breona Kennedy of Church Hill, Girard, with simple assault and disorderly conduct after each of the combatants alleged having been punched multiple times or bitten by the other.

Arrests: Police responded to a possible fight at a stadium in the 200 block of South Highland Avenue before charging two 15-year-old Girard boys with disorderly conduct. The teens refused to desist despite officers’ orders to do so, a report said.

LIBERTY

Aug. 3

Theft: A man reported a $400 laptop computer stolen from his vehicle while in the 4300 block of Belmont Avenue.

Aug. 4

Arrest: Police were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to take custody of 38-year-old Jason R. Henninger of Pineview Drive, Youngstown. He was wanted on a township warrant.

Possible theft: The rear license plate was lost or stolen off a vehicle in the 2900 block of Roosevelt Drive.

Aug. 5

Criminal damaging: A car in the 4100 block of Monticello Boulevard was found with two tires that had been slashed and/or punctured. Damage came to $400.

Arrest: While dealing with a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, police took into custody 25-year-old Megan M. Spare upon discovering that Spare, of Eleanor Avenue, Liberty, was wanted on a Boardman warrant charging theft by deception.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop near Goldie Road resulted in a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia against Linda Spare, 47, of Eddie Street, Youngstown. Several cut straws with a powdery residue common in drug use were found, a report showed.

Aug. 6

Burglary/domestic violence: Charges of domestic violence and aggravated burglary were pending against a 22-year-old Youngstown man after authorities responded to a possible shooting in the 3100 block of Goleta Avenue and before they learned that a man had apparently accidently shot himself in the hand. Before the shooting, a woman alleged her boyfriend entered the home in an effort to attack the accuser after she had kicked him out during an argument, a report stated.

Theft: A Campbell girl, 16, reportedly stole roughly $111 worth of groceries from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

Aug. 7

Citation: While dealing with a fight at a large party in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive, officers issued a minor-misdemeanor citation charging Rahsad L. White of Woodbine Avenue Southeast, Youngstown, with disorderly conduct. White, 25, refused officers’ commands at least five times to leave as they attempted to disperse several partygoers, a report showed.

Criminal damaging: Someone tossed a claw hammer and broke a double-pane window to a residence in the 900 block of Keefer Road. Damage was estimated at $400.

Theft: Two people told police that while at a Belmont Avenue auto-parts store, a man in his 30s claiming his car had broken down convinced them to give him small sums of money to pay for a tow. In exchange, he gave them $50 gift cards that the accusers found out had zero balances and were temporarily inactive, a report said.

Theft: An Ohio temporary tag was removed from a vehicle in the 3200 block of Hadley Avenue.

Threats: A Scott Lane woman alleged her estranged husband had threatened to harm her and take their children from her.

Aug. 8

Arrest: While responding to a possible fight in the 400 block of Ventura Drive, authorities took 27-year-old Roge E. Berger into custody. Berger, of Ventura, Liberty, was wanted on an assault charge.

Theft: A Columbus woman noticed a wristwatch and a wallet missing from her room at a Belmont Avenue motel.

Assault: A Euclid Avenue woman alleged that during a confrontation between them, a Salem man, 43, had pushed her in the chest, causing the accuser to strike her head on pavement and leaving a large knot to the affected area.

Citation: Officers handed 29-year-old Anastasia N. Williams a minor-misdemeanor citation charging disorderly conduct after having responded several times to a disturbance at a home in the 400 block of Ventura Drive. Williams, of Homewood Avenue, Warren, banged on the front door and yelled a series of obscenities at the occupants, a report said.

HUBBARD

Aug. 5

Misuse of a credit card: A worker for Walgreen’s Pharmacy, 15 S. Main St., told officers a man and a woman had bought five gift cards valued at a total of about $1,316 with what the employee believed were stolen credit cards.

Theft: Dale M. Harrison Sr., 49, of Taylor Street, Hubbard, faced a felony-theft charge after a Saline-ville woman reported a purse stolen from her vehicle when she visited the residence.

Theft: The owner of a business in the 800 block of North Main Street alleged an elderly Lowellville man bought a $20 load of gravel but failed to make good on his promise to pay for the material.

Aug. 7

Criminal mischief: A School Street woman found that toilet paper had been tossed into her front, side and back yards. Also, what appeared to be shaving cream was sprayed on several items she had set up for a yard sale.
