Arraigned in assault

GIRARD

A Salem man was arraigned Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court after Liberty police said he knocked his girlfriend unconscious and injured her brother early Monday.

Charles Maurer, 43, is charged with domestic violence and assault.

Witnesses told police that during an argument outside a home on Euclid Avenue, Maurer pushed the 39-year-old woman, causing her to fall to the ground. Her head fell on the pavement and she lost consciousness, police said.

According to the police report, Maurer also pushed the woman’s brother to the ground, causing him to suffer minor injuries to his knees, back and shoulders. Maurer will appear Aug. 17 for a pretrial hearing.

Cited in assault case

YOUNGSTOWN

Reports said a Garfield Avenue man later cited for assault walked away from a police officer Monday when officers arrived at a fight he was involved in on the South Side.

Police were called at about 5:50 p.m. to a home in the 300 block of Hilton Avenue for a fight, and when the first officer arrived, they saw Lynell Stanley, 31, falling down the porch steps.

Reports said Stanley had blood on his hands and face, and he walked away when the first officer arrived and asked him to stop. He was later pulled over at East Philadelphia Avenue and Rush Boulevard. Reports said a man at the Hilton Avenue home said Stanley punched him and knocked him off a bicycle and other people came to the victim’s aid.

Police issued citations to Stanley for assault and driving under suspension, gave him a court date and released him.

Senior levy service pacts

WARREN

The Trumbull County Senior Services Advisory Council will have a special meeting at 3 p.m. today at 2931-A Youngstown Road to review and recommend awards for senior levy service contracts from the recent re-bid of homemaker dollars in the amount of $71,000 and small-grant dollars in the amount of $5,000. The recommendation will then be provided to the county commissioners for approval.

Renovations on lot

LIBERTY

Weather permitting, renovations are set to begin Monday for the township administration building’s parking lot on Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

Workers will seal the parking lot, add stripes and build fencing around the police department’s parking section. The township plans to fund the project using $8,000 of about $15,000 raised via a July auction of vehicles from the township tow yard.

Repairing landslide

ELKTON

Work is scheduled to begin Aug. 16 to repair a landslide along state Route 154 in Columbiana County. Two-way traffic will be maintained in one, 111/2-foot-wide lane with temporary traffic signals. The $333,000 Ohio Department of Transportation project is slated to be completed Sept. 30.
