Man faces charges of rape, kidnapping and felonious assault

GIRARD

A man will appear Wednesday in Girard Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing on charges of rape, kidnapping and felonious assault.

Liberty police arrested Mark Hubbard, 49, of Hubbard after responding to Motor Inn Drive about 9:45 p.m. Thursday. Officers reported meeting with a 61-year-old woman who was bruised and had marks on her neck. The woman told police she had been staying with Hubbard at Motel 30, but that he became angry when she tried to leave and had threatened her with a kitchen knife and sexually assaulted her twice.

The woman said she then left in the middle of the night, but that Hubbard had tried to stop her in the parking lot and threatened to kill her. A police report states two witnesses saw a man trying to force the woman into his car, but that the witnesses intervened to stop the attack.

Officers booked Hubbard into the Trumbull County jail. A judge set his bond at $75,000 when he appeared Friday for an arraignment in Girard Municipal Court.
