YOUNGSTOWN

Reports said a man was issued a citation late Sunday for discharging a firearm within city limits after he fired a shot at a pair of people cutting through his yard.

Officers were called about 10:30 p.m. to the 2400 block of Roy Street for gunfire, where reports said two people told them they cut through a yard on Elberen Avenue when the home- owner, Robert Hanes, 57, accused them of breaking into his home and told them to stop cutting through his yard before he fired a round from a .12-gauge shotgun.

Reports said Hanes told police he fired at the pair after they yelled back at him. No one was hit.

Hanes was released with a court date. Police took the shotgun.

Woman stabbed

YOUNGSTOWN

A 22-year-old woman told police she was stabbed on her front porch about 3:10 a.m. Monday.

The woman said she was on her porch in the 3400 block of Powers Way when someone in black clothing and wearing a ski mask appeared and stabbed her in the left thigh.

The woman ran into her home and called 911, reports said. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment.

Theft of video games

BOARDMAN

A Youngstown woman is accused of stealing video games and selling them back.

Police arrested Megan Spare, 24, of Eddie Street on Friday on a warrant for the theft committed April 13.

An employee reported Spare took $838.68 worth of video games from the Game Stop store on Doral Drive. Spare then sold them for $77 at another Game Stop on Boardman-Poland Road the same day, the report said.

Domestic disturbance

BOARDMAN

A township man faces a domestic-violence charge after his arrest Sunday evening.

Police arrived at the residence of Kenneth Kuhn, 52, of Shields Road, to a domestic disturbance call from the victim claiming he attacked her and threatened her life.

The victim reported when she tried to talk to Kuhn, who had been drinking for three days, he attacked her. The victim said he shouted profanities, grabbed her neck and hair and threatened to drown her in the pool.

Kuhn will be arraigned today in Mahoning County Area Court here.

Marijuana charges

AUSTINTOWN

Officers issued a Mineral Ridge man two summonses for having suspected marijuana Saturday night after reports said the man handed an officer a marijuana cigarette at an OVI checkpoint.

According to the report, Kane Sanders, 20, of Depot Street, drove through an OVI checkpoint at Mahoning Avenue and Howard Street while smoking a marijuana cigarette.

When officers directed Sanders’ car to the diversion area, Sanders handed one of the officers his marijuana cigarette.

During their search, officers found a marijuana pipe in the car.

Sanders was issued two court summonses for marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia for a court date in Mahoning County Area Court.

Arrested in thefts

AUSTINTOWN

Officers arrested a man after reports said he stole multiple items from Walmart, 6001 Mahoning Ave., on several different occasion over the course of three months.

According to the report, Walmart personnel had surveillance recordings of Andrew Stigar, 28, of South Raccoon Road, stealing from the store on various occasions starting in May.

When an employee approached Stigar on Friday afternoon, he was smashing an empty canned energy drink he did not pay for into his head inside the store, reports said.

Stigar was arrested and charged with theft.

Walmart employees said they would compile a list of stolen items and surveillance recordings to give to the police department, reports said.

Multiple charges

AUSTINTOWN

Officers charged a man Friday night after responding to his residence to try to resolve an argument.

According to the report, officers were called to Eigen Street about a woman screaming.

Reports said Bradley Ronci, 31, of Eigen St., threw his girlfriend’s keys into the woods so she couldn’t leave and choked her against a car in the driveway.

During the investigation, officers asked Ronci several times to stay put and stop arguing during their questioning.

When officers took Ronci into custody, they found a crack pipe and multiple pills not prescribed to him, a report said.

Ronci was charged with assault, obstructing official business, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

The Mahoning County commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. today at the Craig Beach Village Administration building, 2538 Grandview Road.

Back-to-school event

WARREN

Second Baptist Church, Ignite Outreach Ministries and Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority are collaborating to prepare young residents of Highland Terrace Apartments and the surrounding neighborhood for the upcoming school year.

At 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday, these organizations will team up to present a Back-to-School Fun Day on Highland Terrace property, 377 Lane Drive SW. It will feature free food and treats, games and family activities, haircuts, nail painting and hair braiding and coloring provided by Le Shoppe and a school supply and backpack giveaway.

Public hearing set

NILES

The Niles school board will have a public hearing Thursday to obtain community input on the rule and regulations of Federal Entitlement Programs and the Individuals with Disabilities Act expenditure of funds.

The meeting will take place at the administrative offices, 309 N. Rhodes Ave., from 9 to 10 a.m.

Those unable to attend the meeting can provide input to Scott A. Libert, director of school improvement and state and federal programs, at 330-989-5095 before the meeting.

Fatal accident

EAST LIVERPOOL

The Lisbon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident about 6:50 p.m. Sunday that killed an East Liverpool man.

A news release from the post said Glenn E. Collins Jr., 67, was driving south on Parkway Avenue when his vehicle went off the side of the road, hit a ditch and then flew through the air. The vehicle overturned before coming to a stop.

The release said Collins was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant of the vehicle. Collins was not wearing his seat belt, and alcohol is suspected as being a factor in the crash, police said.

New bridge open

NORTH LIMA

The new state Route 164 bridge over Interstate 680 opened Monday night. The opening follows a $3.4 million project to replace the previous bridge with a wider span in anticipation of construction of a new interchange between Route 164 and I-680.
