Boardman trustees approve two renewal levies for ballot

BOARDMAN
Township trustees Monday approved two five-year renewal levies to be placed on the November ballot.
If approved by voters, a 0.7-mill levy, first passed in 1976, would generate about $260,000 a year. The renewal of a 3-mill levy, passed in 1981, would generate $1.3 million a year. Both levies provide for the township’s general fund.
For the owner of a $100,000 home, the 0.7-mill issue will cost $25 per year and the 3.1-mill issue will cost $105 per year.
In other business, trustees approved the purchase of equipment, costing $2,604, to expand the bandwidth of communication in the police department’s communications center, with the cost to be reimbursed by Mahoning County.
Trustees also welcomed the township’s new director of zoning and development, Krista Beniston, to her first trustees meeting. Beniston has been working since Aug. 1 after replacing Sarah Gartland, who left several months ago after serving as director for two years.
