Staff report

Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

A walk-off sacrifice fly led the Hudson Valley Renegades to Sunday’s 3-2 victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in New York-Penn League action.

The Scrappers rallied late to take a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning. Their bullpen couldn’t hold.

An error in the eighth helped the Renegades (28-20) tie the game.

In the third inning, the Renegades scored first when Angel Perez tripled and scored on Jake Fraley’s single.

In the eighth inning, the Scrappers (22-26) scored twice. After Gabriel Mejia and Todd Isaacs walked, Andrew Calica bunted and a dropped throw at first base enabled Mejia to score.

Isaacs then came home on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Miles Mastrobouni doubled. A Ping-Hsueh Chen wild pitch moved him to third base.

With one out, Chris Betts flew out to Isaacs. His throw to catcher Logan Ice beat the runner by nearly two full steps. Ice’s tag appeared to be in time buy Mastrobouni was called safe.

Tanner Tully worked five innings and allowed one earned run on three hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out two.

Michael Letkewicz pitched two innings of scoreless relief. He allowed two hits and walked two.

Chen (1-2) took the blown save and the loss. He allowed two earned runs on two hits.
