New anti-Portman ad hitting airwaves

YOUNGSTOWN — The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees [AFSCME] is spending $1,101,111 on a campaign TV commercial criticizing U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, the Republican incumbent, for voting against bills to create tax credits for companies to discourage them from shipping jobs overseas.

The commercial will start airing Tuesday and run through next Monday in Youngstown, Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo and Dayton TV markets.

The ad, titled “Factory,” has a man on a Segway – the same actor who has appeared in Senate Majority PAC attack ads against Portman – saying: “Looks like Rob Portman sure knows how to clean up a factory. Ohioans used to work here, but not anymore.”

Michawn Rich, a Portman campaign spokesman, called the ad "misleading," and the incumbent has "been a leader in fighting unfair trade practices."
