PSU-Beaver accepting apps for master gardener program

BEAVER, PA.

The Penn State Cooperative Extension, 1000 Third St., Suite 3, is accepting applications for the 2016-17 Penn State Extension Master Gardener program.

This program consists of a volunteer training course designed to provide experienced home gardeners with information and skills necessary to share their experience and knowledge with others.

Weekly classes will take place from Oct. 6 through March 2017.

In exchange for 50 hours of instruction, candidates must agree to volunteer 50 hours to Penn State Extension.

Volunteer activities carried out by Master Gardeners include the smart-gardening workshop, poison prevention/Mr. Yuk presentations, Pa. Route 18 community demonstration gardens, vegetable demonstration garden, speakers’ bureau, Penn State Beaver pollinator garden and the annual plant sale.

There is a program fee of $195 to cover the cost of training materials and expenses. Applications are being accepted through Sept. 1.
