Concerts to continue despite railing collapse

CAMDEN, N.J.

Upcoming concerts will go on as scheduled at an amphitheater where a railing collapsed during a Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa concert, injuring 42 people, promoters said Saturday.

Engineers were trying to figure out what happened at Camden’s BB&T Pavilion, an outdoor venue with an indoor seating section and open lawn seating.

A partition separating the lawn from a secondary stage set up at the rear of the seating section collapsed about 10:30 p.m. Friday, causing people to fall roughly 10 feet onto the concrete below.

The collapse occurred as the rappers were gesturing to fans to come toward the small stage, officials said. As people rushed toward the railing, it collapsed.

Fountain dies at 86

NEW ORLEANS

Clarinetist Pete Fountain, whose Dixieland jazz virtuosity and irrepressible wit endeared him to his native New Orleans and earned him decades of national television fame, died Saturday of heart failure. He was 86.

Benny Harrell, Fountain’s son-in-law and manager, said Fountain was in hospice care in New Orleans when he died early Saturday.

With his ready wit and infectious laugh, Fountain was the epitome of the New Orleanian who knew how to “let the good times roll.” He was well known to television fans through his appearances on the Lawrence Welk and Johnny Carson shows. Even his blues had a happy note.
