East High welcomes incoming freshmen and parents
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
Principals, teachers, administrators and staff at East High School and throughout the Youngstown City School District will host a five-day combined Summer Bridge program and ninth-grade parent/student orientation to welcome incoming freshman students and their families.
School district CEO Krish Mohip will open the sessions by welcoming the school’s new freshmen at 9:45 a.m. Monday. He will join students and their parents at East for a special picnic and awards program Friday, beginning at noon.
The Summer Bridge program is intended to provide incoming freshmen with vital school-related information and interactive activities to help them experience a smooth transition from eighth grade to high school by learning more about the school’s core curriculum, guidance topics and technology. In addition, attendees will have an opportunity to tour East and participate in motivational and interactive activities designed to increase their organizational, critical-thinking and team-building skills.
The Summer Bridge program is free for incoming East freshmen and will take place Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to noon. Breakfast, snacks and transportation will be provided.
The ninth-grade parent/student orientation is intended to provide parents and guardians with similar school-related information that was reviewed and distributed to their children who participated in the school’s Summer Bridge program.
Parents and guardians are required to attend the orientation with their child. The orientation will take place Friday from 9 a.m. to noon., followed by a student-award activity and a “Get Acquainted Picnic With CEO Krish Mohip.” The picnic will take place in the school cafeteria and East Panthers garden.
