A Bears Den Road woman is in the Mahoning County jail on $17,500 bond after police at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital said she overdosed on heroin in an emergency-room restroom.
Taylor Moore, 23, was given a $15,000 bond at her arraignment Friday in municipal court by Judge Robert Milich on a felony charge of possession of heroin as well as an additional $2,500 bond on a charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments.
Reports from Mercy Health police said that Moore was found about 7 p.m. Thursday in a restroom and was very ill.
When officers arrived, there was a nurse treating Moore in the restroom. Police found a syringe, an empty bag that had residue of suspected heroin inside and two other bags with doses of suspected heroin. Also, it appeared she used her glasses to mix the heroin before she put it in the needle to inject it, reports said.
Reports said that Moore later admitted using heroin after she was taken back to her room at the hospital. Reports did not say why she was there in the first place.
Court records show Moore was sentenced in May to probation with a 171-day jail sentence stayed after she was convicted in Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman of a misdemeanor theft charge.
Moore said she had been going to rehab and had recently left. She said she wants to go back again and finish her treatment.
“I know people don’t think I take this seriously, but I do,” Moore told Judge Milich. “I want to get help.”
Judge Milich said Moore would receive help before he announced her bonds.
