YSU Notebook: More from Stambaugh Stadium

Mitchell update: YSU head coach Bo Pelini confirmed that one of two players charged in a gun incident in May is not with the team.

Casimier Mitchell, a freshman linebacker from Shaker Heights, was charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle in May. He’s no longer listed on the YSU roster and was not at practice Thursday.

“[Casimier] is not on the team right now,” Pelini said. “There’s still some things playing out. I can’t really talk much about it but as of today, no, not right now.”

Lee Wright, a senior linebacker from York, S.C. was also charged in the incident but remains on the roster and participated in practice.

Sheely gone: Pelini also confirmed that Austintown Fitch product Nick Sheely has left the team, citing a focus on his career plans.

“Nick hung it up,” Pelini said. “He decided there were things he wanted to do off the field, things he wanted to do going forward with his career and it was just getting too hard for him to manage the whole thing, so I wish him well.”
