Beeghly Oaks Rehabilitation Center hosted an afternoon of Latin American dancing for the residents on June 29.

CareRite hosted a Destination Vacation program that Beeghly Oaks is taking part of to provide entertainment and education for the residents. Some of the places the residents celebrated were China and Poland. Guests from around the community volunteered to attend and talk to the residents about their experiences with different cultures at the programs Beeghly Oaks hosted.

The latest culture the residents and faculty at Beeghly Oaks celebrated was Latin American culture. There is a strong presence of Latin and Hispanic culture within the Beeghly Oaks facility allowing the residents and staff to closely relate to the celebration.

Five different dance teams from A Time To Dance dance company visited Beeghly Oaks to teach the residents about different types of dance in the Latin culture. There was a mixture of male and female dancers to perform the different dance styles.

“Over 50 people attended and participated, many dancing and clapping to the wonderful Latin beat,” said Maureen McCarty, activity director at Beeghly Oaks.

Joe Sepesy, dancer and Army pilot veteran, talked about each type of dance before it was performed. Residents learned about several dances and got to enjoy the experience of what the dances looked like in person.

At the end of the program, the residents had the opportunity to mingle and dance along with the performers. The residents will continue to engage in different activities while learning about other cultures around the world as the year goes on.
