$1.8 million paving project approved
YOUNGSTOWN
The Mahoning County commissioners approved Thursday a $1.8 million contract with Stateline Paving LLC of North Lima for this year’s county road-resurfacing program.
Roads that will be paved with an Ohio Public Works Commission grant paying 54 percent of the cost and the other 46 percent coming from county license plate fee and fuel tax revenues are:
Southern Boulevard from Indianola Road in Boardman to the Youngstown city line.
Glenwood Avenue between Ewing and Shields roads in Boardman.
Shields Road from Lockwood Boulevard in Boardman to Mission Hills Drive in Canfield.
Sheban Drive between Shields and Truesdale roads in Boardman.
Hopkins Road in Boardman from Truesdale Road to the Youngstown city line.
Burkey Road between Raccoon and Meridian roads in Austintown.
South Turner Road from Kirk Road to Mahoning Avenue in Austintown.
North Lima Road between Walker Mill and Western Reserve roads in Poland.
Courtney Road between Johnson and Bandy roads in Smith Township.
Palmyra Road between state Route 45 and a point 3,400 feet east of Bailey Road in Ellsworth Township.
Kirk Road between Lipkey and Gault roads in Jackson Township.
Lisbon Road from Pine Lake Road to state Route 14 in Green Township.
“The approved future paving of Sheban Drive from Shields Road to Truesdale is great news for all of those who use this area as part of their recreational activities in Mill Creek MetroParks. Sheban Drive is a key road for those using West Newport for bicycling, jogging and walking. We are sure many park patrons will be excited for this improvement by the county,” said Lorilyn Shandor, MetroParks director of development and community engagement.
Roads that will be paved using only local funds will be: West Boulevard from Shields Road to Glenwood Avenue in Boardman; Herbert Road from the Canfield city line to Turner Road; West Garfield Road from Duck Creek Road to state Route 14 in Goshen Township; Meadowbrook Avenue from Market Street to Southern Boulevard in Boardman; and Silica Road from its dead end to Turner Road in Austintown.
The commissioners also voted Thursday to close North Lima Road in Poland between Spitler and Western Reserve roads for about 18 days beginning Aug. 15 to replace a concrete box culvert that carries a tributary of Yellow Creek under North Lima Road before that road is repaved.
The commissioners’ next meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Craig Beach Village Administration Building, 2538 Grandview Road, Lake Milton.
