BROOKFIELD
The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library Board of Trustees awarded a $329,880 contract to United Contractors Inc. of Brookfield for a construction project at the Brookfield Branch Library, 7032 Grove St.
The construction will add a public-meeting room, two offices, additional shelving and parking and an exit driveway, adding 1,100 square feet to the library.
Construction will begin Sept. 1 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Jim Wilkins, library director, said in a news release most of the funding will come from a previous unrestricted private bequest to the library.
Boy struck by car
WARREN
A boy, 16, of Meadowbrook Avenue Southeast, suffered a concussion and abrasions and was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital after being struck by a car in the parking lot of a church on Surrey Drive Southeast.
A witness said the incident happened at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday after boys finished playing basketball. He heard a noise and saw the victim tumbling off of the hood of a car.
The driver kept going and left the parking lot. There were two passengers in the car.
Child endangering
WARREN
Melanie J. Huncherick, 24, of Lancer Court Northwest, was charged with child endangering, speeding and reckless operation after a police officer found her driving 70 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone with her son, 4, in the car.
The officer made the traffic stop at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday on West Market Street near Southern Boulevard. A copy of the police report will be faxed to Trumbull County Children Services, police said.
Man reports robbery
WARREN
A man, 36, of Warren, says he was robbed by two men who followed him from a gas station at North Park Avenue and Atlantic Street Northeast at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The victim said the two males watched him buy two ice-cream bars, a canned beverage and a money order at the gas station, then followed him to the parking lot of a nearby church, where they approached him, said he owed them money, then assaulted him, taking his credit card, phone and food items.
The males left in a silver Volkswagen hatchback, police said.
Man accused of OVI
BOARDMAN
A Niles man faces a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired after crashing his Yamaha ATV on Wednesday night.
Police arrived at a field south of West Midlothian Boulevard where Steven Latimer, 25, of West Federal Street, crashed his ATV into a tree. Paramedics on the scene reported he had a broken leg and several cuts on his face.
Latimer admitted having a few beers before getting on his ATV. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment.
