Layoffs looming at Delphi in Warren
WARREN — Workers at the Delphi plant in Warren were notified this week that the company plans to layoff 88 workers.
The company brought in leadership from the IUE-CWA Local 717 to tell them about “revenue issues that were adversely affecting” profitability, according to a letter sent out to Local 717 members.
Ed Salus, president of the IUE-CWA Local 717, was surprised by the move to outsource jobs because last fall the membership’s new, five-year contract says no layoffs will take place.
Salus said no time line has been given for when the layoffs could happen. The union has reached out to local representatives and is working with the international union to see what can be done to prevent the layoffs.
“We aren’t going to take this lying down,” Salus said.
Salus represents 672 workers at Delphi. In 2005, 13,000 were employed at Delphi in Warren.
The Vindicator is waiting for a response from the company.
