The Poland library hosted its second annual week-long Drama Camp on July 11-15 for children to participate in and learn all of the aspects of acting.

Jen Kuzcek, the librarian in charge of the Drama Camp, has been performing for several years and was excited to have the chance to teach children everything she knows. The children attended the camp Monday through Friday for two hours to learn and perform “Rap-punzel” for family and friends.

“We talked about the audition process, the Greek Theatre, the Globe Theatre, Shakespeare. We talked about aspects like costumes and lights and scenery and sounds,” said Kuzcek.

Kuzcek spent the week educating the children on performing arts. The children went through an audition process to earn the part of the different characters in “Rap-punzel.”

“All the stuff you see here today, the kids have done,” Kuzcek said about the props and scenery.

The children created their own props, in addition to learning their lines for the play, all within a week. Putting on a performance can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to prepare for.

Families and friends were invited to come to the library on July 15 to see the final product of what the children have been working on throughout the week. After the children showed off what they learned, everyone was invited to stay after for snacks and refreshments.

Drama Club allowed the children to express themselves, learn new information about acting and performing and make new friends while doing it.
