The City of Canfield celebrated the Fourth of July with fun, food, games, family and, of course, the parade, with thousands of people attending the annual celebration.
The city began its Independence Day celebration early, with registration for both the Half Mile Kids’ Race and the Firecracker 4 Miler at 7:30 a.m. The Kids’ Race around the Green took off at 8:15 a.m. in front of Farmers National Bank, with the Firecracker 4 Miler starting at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Dairy Queen.
While attendees were anxiously awaiting the parade to reach the Green, they could visit the booths and catch JD Eicher performing at the Gazebo.
Throngs of people lined the streets around the Green to get a glimpse of the participants of the parade, including Co-Grand Marshals Joyce and Loran Brooks, Canfield High School Band, political candidates, 4-H clubs, Mahoning County Jr. Fair Board, Canfield Baseball Club, Canfield Soccer Club, Canfield Little Cardinals, numerous clowns and classic cars, Canfield Local Schools board members, Marine Corps League and many, many more.
Following the parade, Co-Grand Marshals Joyce and Loran Brooks were honored at the Gazebo before JD Eicher returned for a post parade performance. An array of free kids games, bounce-arounds and a petting zoo were also available on the North Green.
This year marked the return of the Patriotic Pet Contest on the South Green sponsored by Doctors Park Veterinary Clinic and South Mill Pet Care.
A food court was also open in the Farmers National Bank parking lot offering an array of goodies, all supporting local non-profit causes.
The 2016 Canfield Fourth of July Committee included Tony Peluso, parade co-chair; Anthony Fusillo, dignitaries and children’s games; Chuck Colucci, police liaison; Enid Maldonado, committee co-chair, treasurer and concessions; Clare Neff, publicity; Gary Hubbard, parade and Firecracker Run chair; Dave Burch, committee co-chair; Steve Bennett, antique cars chair; Jeff Moliterno, dignitaries chair, and Jim Queen and Mark Sabol, parade starters.
