Poland can't overcome bad first inning

— The Poland 13-14 softball team spotted Warwick, R.I., a 5-0 first-inning lead and fell 9-3 on Thursday in the Junior League World Series.

Warwick, the East regional champion, got two-run singles from Jordan Tiberi and Emily Carter and also scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first.

Poland, the Central regional champion, got three runs back in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't score again in the game despite matching Warwick's 13 hits.

Warwick added two runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Lauren Sienkiewicz, Ally Nittoli, Jackie Grisdale and Lexi Diaz each had two hits for Poland. Grisdale doubled, homered and drove in two runs.
