$20K bond set for Dellick

CLEVELAND

A federal judge has set a $20,000 unsecured bond with electronic monitoring for John T. Dellick, 22, of Canfield, pending disposition of the charge against him of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Dellick, however, will remain in U.S. marshals custody until the U.S. pretrial office inspects the halfway house in which he’ll live.

U.S. District Court Judge Dan Aaron Polster made the decision Wednesday after a hearing on the U.S. attorney’s request that Dellick be detained pending disposition of the case.

Dellick, a son of Judge Theresa Dellick of Mahoning County Juvenile Court, pleaded innocent to the charge at his arraignment Monday in Youngstown.

The charge pertains to the young Dellick’s reportedly having a .25-caliber pistol and ammunition Jan. 3 in a Boardman hotel room after he was convicted of aggravated assault in March 2015 in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

A hotel worker found a loaded .25-caliber handgun in the room after Dellick checked out.

Dellick’s lawyer, David Betras, released a family statement saying his client had planned to kill himself.

The case was investigated by Boardman police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and it is being prosecuted by David M. Toepfer, a Youngstown-based assistant U.S. attorney.
